Saturday 22nd January saw the junior swimmers from Newry and Mourne take to the blocks at home against Cookstown in the 2nd gala of the Forest Feast aquasprint league. With one win already under their belt the junior squad were in marvellous form and ready to go. Things did not get off to the best start for the Newry side with Cookstown taking 3 out of the 4 medley relays up for grabs. The Newry youngsters however would not give in gracefully and swam like the team they are. Point after point was clocked up with some outstanding swimming on display from both sides. Although very much a team effort some swimmers put in exceptional performances. Darragh Quinn won 3 races and came 2nd in the 4th, Teagan Carville and Lewis Gray also won 3, Maeve O’ Hare won 2 and came 2nd in the other 2. Finn Garry, Ella-Grace Heaney, Tiernan Carroll, Charlie Magill, Isaac Mc Elherron, Caoimhe Sneddon, Tara Haffey and Aran Mc Laughlin also won races to help clock the points in Newry’s favour. Heading into the final freestyle relays things were tight but when the final relay drew to a nail biting finish, the home team had done enough to secure their 2nd victory of the season. Newry 214 points, Cookstown 186.

The 2nd Swim Ulster Development gala also took place on Saturday in Omagh. Some of the more senior members of the Newry squad travelled to chase their much sought after times. Keven Mc Stay got 2 golds, 1 silver and a qualifying time. Niall O’ Hare got 1 gold and 2 bronze. Shona Mc Keever got a silver and a qualifying time while her sister Clara got a bronze and a qualifying time also. The rest of the squad attending Omagh all came away with personal best times.

The entire club are working hard to move forwards towards a very positive future, doing what they do best and having fun along the way.
