Saturday 28th February saw the junior swimmers from Newry and Mourne face their last ever gala in their current pool. Up against stiff competition from City of Belfast the junior squad turned out in force. Many of the senior squad also turned up to support the junior team as this was to be a tough gala and also the final one on the current home turf.

Despite previously being defeated by City of Belfast, the junior team were determined to do battle on this momentous occasion and swam out of their skins. Many of the young swimmers achieved personal best times in several strokes and the team went on to defeat City of Belfast by 30 points.

This fantastic victory comes hot on the heels of another win by the club when on 21st February all members competed against Portadown in the Provincial Towns League. Again the club turned out in force and yet again victory was secured with outstanding swimming from the entire team.

All swimmers, coaches and parent volunteers under the leadership of head coach Paul Rogers are training hard to ensure Newry and Mourne swimming club are a strong force to be reckoned with as the move into the new leisure centre fast approaches.
