NEWRY SWIMMERS PILE ON THE PRESSURE
Saturday 26th of November saw the swimmers from Newry and Mourne head to Dungannon to compete in another gala in the Provincial Towns League. Spurred on by recent successes the swimmers were in good spirits and hoping to build on this. As always the proceedings kicked off with the Medley relays and Newry just about edged ahead, bagging 5 out of the 8 races. The individual events then got under way. Newry piled on the pressure, showing Dungannon that they were a team to be reckoned with and showing their coaches that all the long hours in the pool were paying off. The entire gala was very much a team effort and the freestyle relays displayed the team spirit evident in Newry, when Newry won 7 out of the 8 races. When the final relay blazed to a close Newry had done enough and defeated Dungannon by 630 points to 514.
Newcomer Ciara Malcom won of her individual races. Stephanie Hart, Rose Mc Polin, Rachel Kelly, Tara Haffey, Eve Dunford, Naoise Carroll, Clara Mc Keever, Aimee Burns, Amy Hunter, Maeve O’ Hare, Shea Rafferty, Ben Rafferty, Jack Donnelly, Alexander Marfunin, Sean Mc Kevitt and Rory Rafferty all had wins for Newry showing the strength of the swimmers and the team spirit within the club. Another great success for the team.
